He was born in August 1853 as Jan Blink in the country village of Zeerijp, in the midnorthern part of the Dutch northeastern province Groningen, son of the 38 years aged day laborer Menke Harms Blink and Anje Jans van der Laan.

His mother Anje Jans van der Laan, born in 1821, died in May 1864 in the country village of 't Zandt, located in the midnorthern part of province Groningen. His father Menke Harms Blink, born on 10 October 1815 in Stedum, municipality Loppersum, Groningen, Netherlands died on 9 December 1893 in Alton, Sioux County, Iowa.

Jan Blink emigrated in 1867 to the USA, probably alone, and married before 1875 to Trijntje aka Catharine Hoek, who emigrated in 1855 with her parents and a brother from the Netherlands to the USA, Illinois, Cook County, Chicago or its southern settlements.

In 1880 John Blink (27 y, farmer), his wife Catharine (27, born in the Netherlands too), their children Anna (5, Illinois), Jacob (3, Illinois), Michael (2, Illinois) and Benjamin (0, Indiana) lived in North Township, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana.
After 1880 they had in Indiana, Lake County four more children: Mary (born 1881), Ellen (1883), Dick [alias Richard] (1885, Munster) and Nellie (1887).

His wife Katharine died in April 1888 at the age of 34 years, very probably in Indiana, Lake County.

In June 1900 John Blink (47 y, born in August 1853 in Holland, immigrated in 1867, widower, farmer), his children Jacob (22, October 1877, Illinois, farm laborer), Mike (21, November 1878, Indiana, farm laborer), Ben (20, February 1880, Indiana, farm laborer), Mary (18, September 1881, Indiana, servant), Ellen (16, August 1883, Indiana, servant), Dick [aka Richard] (14, Juni 1885, Munster, Indiana, farm laborer) and Nellie (12, November 1887, Indiana, at school) were living at a rented farm in the -future- Munster area in North Township, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana.

In 1907 the new town of Munster was incorporated and given the name of one of its distinguished first citizens, Jacob Monster aka Munster, who settled here in 1855 with a few other Dutch immigrant families. Munster soon became a booming town that attracted many people.

John Blink died in July 1938 at the age of almost 85 years in the village of Lansing, nowadays a southern suburb of Chicago, immediately west of Munster, Cook County, Illinois.
