Albert Jones, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday June 29, 1997, at his home.

He was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Whitewater, the son of Monroe Clarence and Mary Proffer Jones. On April 27, 1942, he married Maude Beckette Diamond, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 1975. On Nov. 13, 1981, he married Evelyn Hoover in Jackson.

He was a carpenter.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the ambulance service.

Survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; a son, Bill Van Troba of Cape Girardeau; a stepson, Robert Diamond of Cape Girardeau; four stepdaughters, Betty Riley of Scott City and Georgia Wren, Mary Maglone and Emma Gerlach of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Cleo Jones of Cape Girardeau and George Jones of Santa Maria, Calif.; five sisters, Ruth Rhodes of Cape Girardeau, Hazel Brooks and Mrs. Bill Simmons of St. Louis, Ruby Estes of Santa Maria, Calif., and Jeannette Hamilton of El Paso; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by 17 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ford & Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joe McCullough officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
