Earl Jones, 416 Second Street, died at 10:10 Friday night at St. Francis Hospital. He was 69 years old. He was born June 12, 1905 in Whitewater and was married to the former Miss Mary Powell on Sept. 1, 1923 in Cape Girardeau.
He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1923 from Whitewater and was employed for 26 years by International Shoe Co. plant and eight years at Brune-Eaker Service Station. Mr. Jones was Assistant Street Superintendent in Cape Girardeau when he retired in 1970. He was a member of Third Street Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, daughters, Mrs. Charles Buelow, Clinton, IA, Mrs. Richard Keller, Las Vegas, NV; sisters, Mrs. Hazel Brooks and Mrs. William Simmons, both of St. Louis; half-sisters, Mrs. Ruth Rhodes, Cape Girardeau, Mrs. Jeanette Hamilton, Dallas, Tex; half-brothers, Albert, Cleo and Bill, all of Cape Girardeau, George Jones of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Service will be held at 1:30 Monday afternoon at Ford and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Dickey, pastor of the Illmo United Methodist Church officiating, assisted by the Rev. Alfred Daniels. Burial will be in Hobbs Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
