Walter Emil Braatz was born on October 8, 1915, in Dupont, Wisconsin, to John and Ida (Miller). He grew up there with his siblings: Elda (Ruben) Hauschultz, Harold and Linda (Alvin) Much. He married Alice Jeanette Bazile on November 29, 1941. The couple settled in Dupont where they raised their children: Larry, Norman, Tom, Bob and Beverly Fischer. He died on August 24, 1996, in Clintonville, Wisconsin, at the age of 80, and was buried in Marion, Wisconsin, on Roseland Cemetery.
