Claude Baxter was born to Walter Lee Baxter & Lela Mae Oliver. This union took place in Polk County, Texas on July 28, 1906. Papa was named Claude Baxter with no middle name or initial.

Papa wed Ada Minerva McAdams on March 21, 1925. This union was for 65 years till death parted them and they were blessed with 8 children. As of 2014 all but two children have passed on and now are reunited with their parents.

Papa never learned how to read or write, but that never stopped him from anything! He made a good living to take care of his family. He worked around tree, logs, sawmills in some fashion over the years.

Papa had his own Logging Company (told to me by Aunt Snell). He drove the truck, inspected the timbers and Big Mama did all the books. Papa worked awhile for Champion Mills, now called Georgia Pack. As a child, I remember Papa going to work as a Security Guard at the lumberyard.

Papa loved to fish, swing on the porch swing and be around and with his family. He raised cattle and one particular time I remember Big Mama telling us there was a lot of hamburger being processed because Papa's favorite Bull, was injured jumping over the barbed wire fence. Papa would lead that Bull around by the nose ring!

Big Mama & Papa had a big ole house with 2 big ole porches on "Baxter Hill" in Livingston, Texas. It was like a sanctuary for me as a child. I loved going to visit. Grandkids would have watermelon spitting contests off the back porch! lol!

Claude Baxter was the most honest and fairest man I have ever met in my life! He had Common Sense and a Creative mind and a real strong grip! When Papa gave you his word, you could take it to the bank and count on it!

Papa was a Christian man, whom loved Jesus with his whole heart and soul! Loved and enjoyed life, plowed through the hurdles together with the love of his life, Ada Minerva. Made bad into good and had a smile to share with anyone.

I miss you Papa and love you to pieces! MUAH!
