James and Jane Wallace Lorimer left their native Scotland soon after their marriage in 1840, and moved to Newcastle on Tyne in England. They had 5 children born in England. One died in infancy, a baby girl named Grace. The family emigrated to NY with their remaining 4 children in 1853 on the ship, Leviathan. In Dunmore, James continued his vocation as a shoemaker. They were here for less than a year, when their youngest child, Willie, died at age 4. Just 2 years later, the mother, Jane died, and in 1960, the family lost their eldest son, James Jr. who died at age 20, followed by the father, James, later that year. That left 2 daughters, Jane and Janet, or Jennie, alone at ages 18 and 15.
