DEATH OF MRS. LUTHER HUFF

This morning at about eleven o'clock death entered the home of Mrs. Frank Irving at the City Hall, taking Fannie Barber Huff, beloved mother of Mrs. Irving. The lady's death did not come unexpected, as she had been ill for several weeks with nervous trouble. Fannie Barber was born July 5th, 1837 in Yorkshire, England and came to the United States when a child of 7 years, settling with her parents in Illinois, where she married Walter Burt in 1855. In the spring of 1860 Mr. and Mrs. Burt came west to Colorado and located at Pueblo, from there moved to Leadvllle, and finally came to Aspen in August, 1886, where Mr. Burt died six years later. In October 1900 the widowed lady married Luther Huff and the couple have resided in this city since that time. For a number of years they conducted the well known Burt House, having only recently given up the business owing to Mrs. Huff's poor health. In the passing of this most estimable lady, Aspen loses one of its pioneers who was loved by the community for her loyal character and gentle manner.

The relatives left to mourn her loss are her husband, Luther Huff, a daughter, Mrs. Frank Irving of this city, a sister at Corrigan, Iowa, and a niece at Rifle. Funeral services will be conducted under the auspices of the Eastern Star at the Charles Hart residence on East Durant Street, Monday at 2 p.m. Rev. Eitelgeorge will officiate assisted by the Methodist choir. Interment will be in Masonic plot at Red Butte Cemetery, under direction of Undertaker DeMarais. Tho host of friends of the deceased extend heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones in their deep sorrow.

PLEASANT WEDDING

Last night a wedding took place at the Burt [sic] House on Durant Avenue, the contracting parties being two well known people of Aspen and Pitkin County.

Mrs. Fannie Bert was one of the first brave pioneers in Colorado. She ventured across the plains and through the mountain passes while wild beasts and wilder red men roamed the yet unbroken wilderness. In 1860 she reached the site of what is now Leadville, then known as California Gulch, and spent one winter there in a wagon. In Aspen she has conducted the Burt house for a number of years and is considered an indispensable fixture of the city. Her friends are numbered by hundreds and all of them are anxious to wish her good fortune under the changed conditions.

Mr. Luther Huff, the fortunate bridegroom, is also an oldtimer, known through the country as an hones, sturdy man of sterling qualities and excellent nature. He has been a ranchman for a long time in the Roaring Fork valley.

Rev. Dr. Percival, of the Presbyterian Church, performed the ceremony in the presence of over 100 guests who thronged the house on this festive occasion. The presents were costly and too numerous for recapitulation here.

After the ceremony a most sumptuous banquet decked the boards and the feast there is but a token of the plenty which all their acquaintances trust will follow them.

The couple will unite their efforts to make the Burt house better and more popular,, if possible, than ever.
