He moved from Gilead, Branch Co., MI to Florence Twp., St. Joseph Co (1860), to Hopkins, Allegan Co., MI, to Leonidis Twp., St. Joseph Co., MI then to Colon Twp.where he remained until his death. He was blind about the last 15-20 years of his life.

Spouse: Mary Jane E. Clark, married 17 November, 1866 in Stuben Co., IN

Children: Claud Isaac, Eben George, Lovina M. (Loie), Minnie L. Unknown, & Delmer Adams

Obituary: James C. Adams was born January 17, 1840 in Gilead, IN, and died December 22,1911, in Colon, MI, aged 71 years , 11 months and 25 days. His parents died when he was only five years old and he made his home with a brother (John Ellison). He came to MI when a young man and enlisted, when 21 years of age, in the beginning of the Civil War. He belonged to the 42nd Illinois: was in the memorable battle of Lookout Mountain and served for two years.
He married Miss Jane Clark November 17, 1866, in Indiana, where they lived for four years, when they came to Hopkins, Allegan county,MI, there he cleared a farm of forty acres, They then move to Leonidis where the remainder of his life was spent. save he last four years, which he has lived in Colon. Mr. Adams' vocation was farming. He was a persevering laborer; a cheerful disposition was his; to read was to him a pleasure.
Four years since he was disabled by a stroke of paralysis and has been a great care to his family. Mr. Adams was of a family of nine children, and the seventh one to depart this life. He was the father of six children, four of whom survive.
In early life Mr. Adams joined the Disciple Church and was a very active member. He taught Sunday School class and was a class leader.
Te funera was held at the house, Sunday at 2:00 p. m., Burial in Lakeside cemetery: The Rev. J. C. Cook officiating. The G. A. R, Post acting as pall bearers
