Mrs. Lela Black Day widow of the late James A. Day of Malesus and a beloved character of that community died Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock at Webb-Williamson Hospital where she had been a patient for three weeks. Mr. Day preceded her in death July 28, 1957.
She was born at Malesus August 31, 1878, daughter of the late Mary Susan Lee and William C. Black.
She was married to Mr. Day May 14, 1913.
She was a member of the Malesus Methodist Church and the Ladies Bible Class.
Surviving are two sons. Fred Day of Malesus, Joe A. Day of Orlando, Fla., a daughter, Mrs. E. W. Bailey of Malesus, a brother, Milton Black of Madison County two sisters, Miss Pearl Black of Malesus, Mrs. J. H. Peters, Washington, D. C., seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 at the Malesus Methodist Church conducted by the pastor, Rev. James Holmes assisted by the Rev. J. A. Nunnery, pastor of the Baptist church. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Active pallbearers who are requested to meet at the Griffin Funeral Home at 10 Friday are Edmond Martin, Turner Murchison, Arthur Johnson, W. A. Hudson, D. W. Pruitt, Mack Watlington, W. G. Harding, Arville Williams.
Honorary pallbearers who are to meet at the church at 10:15 are Dr. Kelly Smythe, John Mays, Jim Raines, Henry Haynes, B. F. Futrell, Jim Douglas.
The body will be at Griffin'a until the funeral hour.
