County Resident Dies At Home In Howards Grove

August Grunwald, Sr., aged 77, died at his home at Howards Grove at 1 a.m. today.
Mr. Grunwald was born in Germany on April 16, 1851. He came to this county with his parents, three brothers and three sisters, in 1869. His father died in route to America, and upon the shoulders of young August fell the responsibility of supporting the family.

For a time, they made their home with the Gottlieb Kuester family. In 1874 Mr. Grunwald was married to Miss Elizabeth Wirth. One child was born to this union, and the mother died a year later.

On October 28, (or 22) 1875, Mr. Grunwald married Miss Caroline Wirth, sister of his first wife. They made their home on the Wirth farm until 1910, when they moved to their new residence in Howards Grove. Eleven children were born to to the second union, three of them dying.

His wife and the following children survive: Miss Lillie Hindahl of Mason City, Ill., child of the first union; Mrs. Annie Kolberg of Howards Grove, Mrs. Leona Kaufmann of Sheboygan, William and August Jr., of Howards Grove, Walter of School Hill, Hugo and George of Sheboygan, and Herman of Fond du Lac, children of the second marriage.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 1:30 p.m., Monday and at 2 o’clock in the Lutheran church at Howards Grove, the Rev. Walter Kitzerow officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
