Obituary
J.T. Loftis (sic) , aged 79 years, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Phillips, 507 West Fifth street, of old age and complications. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence and will be conducted by the Rev. H. Alford Porter of the First Baptist Church. Interment will be at Fairlawn cemetery.

There is question over his place of birth. Family member death certificates that show him as their father, state he was born in Ireland. Other records indicate he was born in N.C. His father, Gideon, was born in the USA, so I feel this is a 'family story'.
