SPARKMAN NIGHT MARSHAL KILLED
E. C. Boen is Fatally Shot by Negro Last Night

Night Marshal E. C. Boen, aged 56 of Sparkman, was fatally wounded by a Negro in Sparkman last night, but he was able to slay his assailant after being shot, according to reports here today. Boen was brought to the Camden hospital about 9 p.m. last night with a bullet wound in his abdomen.

He was in too grave a condition to operate and hospital attendants administered stimulants. He died about midnight.

It was learned that Marshal Boen tried to arrest a Negro at Sparkman but the Negro grabbed the marshal's pistol and shot him through the stomach. Boen was able to get his gun back and in turn shot and killed the Negro whose name was not learned.
