Matthew Tran Passes Away Early Sunday Morning [1942]

Matthew Tran, for many years a resident of Portland, passed away at his home on Academy street in the village early Sunday morning following a long illness.
Mr. Tran was born in Alberta, Canada October 8, 1857, the son of Emanuel and Elizabeth Tran. At the age of seven, he came to Michigan with his parents, who settled near Sebewa Center.
On January 1, 1889, he was married to Miss Nina Urie, who with three daughters survives him. The daughters are Mrs. Robert Button of Greenville; Mrs. Ray Stiffler, of Eagle, Mrs. Roy Winslow, of Ionia. There are also two brothers and one sister surviving, Eli Tran of Flint, Elem Tran and Mrs. Florence Taylor, of Sebewa, seven grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.
Mr. Tran was employed by the village of Portland for many years until forced by ill health to give up the work.
Funeral services were held at the Bandfield chapel, Tuesday afternoon in charge of Rev. Wm. Gray of Portland Congregational church with burial in Portland cemetery.
