Jennie and her first husband moved to Montana to homestead about 18 miles north of Winnett (Petroleum County). By 1920 the family lived in Lewistown. Jennie worked as a nurse until her marriage to Mark Kelley in 1936 when she returned to Petroleum County where Mark ran a store and gas station and also served as Postmaster in Teigen. After Mark's death in 1940, she ran the store during the war years finally selling it and moving to Spokane in 1946.

Her parents are Andrew Jackson Ranney (1851-1881)and Mary Arvilla McDannald Ranney Rigor (1862 - 1937)
