Arthur J. Meserve, 73, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings, Montana. He was born October 7, 1913, in Lewistown, Montana. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meserve and attended school there. Art served with the 2nd Marine Division during World War II in the South Pacific.
He was married to Alta (Brownie) Kelly on Dec. 23, 1947, in Miles City, Montana. They ranched in the Winnett and Big Timber areas and have ranched in the Melville area for the past 6 years.
He was a member of the Montana Stock Growers and had been a rodeo rider all over Montana.
Survivors include his wife Alta Meserve of Melville; his daughter, Kathy Uhrich of Columbus, MT; 2 brothers, Coty Meserve of Winnett, MT and Wilbur Meserve of Spokane, WA; a sister, Myrtle Richardson of Benton City, WA; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Lowry Funeral Home with Pastor Martin Seibert officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post #19.
Casket bearers were Herb Uhrich, Lance Uhrich, Bill Meserve, George Dengel, Richard Dengel and Duane Dengel. Honorary bearers were all of his friends.
Organist was Jennie Roys and soloist was David Roys. The selections were "Beyond the Sunset" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord."
