Funeral service for Wilbert W. Enke of Altenburg, was conducted by the Rev. Steven Dressler at 10 a.m., July 3, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg. Burial was in the church cemetery
with military graveside rites by VFW Post 4282. Young and Sons East Perry Chapel in Altenburg,
was in charge of arrangements. A VFW wake was held at the funeral chapel at 7 p.m., July 2.
Mr. Enke, 85, died June 30, 2006, at his home. He was born July 19, 1920, in St. Louis, a son
of Walter and Lena Wachter Enke. On Jan. 19, 1947, he was married to Emma Kranawetter. She survives.
He was a retired truck driver having been employed by Schaefer Water Care.
Mr. Enke was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg, AmVets Post 94, and American Legion Post 133. He was a past commander of VFW Post 4282.
He was veteran of World War II, and a Purple Heart recipient.
Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Doris Fritsche of Perryville; two sons, James Enke and Gerald Enke, both of Perryville; two brothers, Robert Enke of Columbus, GA, and Kelly Enke of Uniontown; two sisters, Delphine Kasten, and Dorothy Mueller, both of St. Louis; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
