He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; sons, Mark (Susan), Bryce (Jill), and Eric (Heidi); grandchildren, Anders, Lars, Anne, Emily, Brita, Regan, Dylan, and Luke, and brothers, Wendell and Homer.
He moved to Richvale in 1937, graduated from Biggs High, Yuba College, and attended Cal Poly SLO until he was drafted by the US Army. Harlan married Carolyn Murray of Richvale in 1958 and began farming organic and specialty rice with his three brothers, Eldon, Wendell, and Homer, at Lundberg Family Farms.
Harlan and Carolyn have enjoyed foster parenting, and were dorm parents in Brazil and Kenya. Harlan committed his life to Jesus, serving Him in the local church, with Gideons, on Wolf Mountain Camp's Board, and the National Evangelical Free Church Board.
In 1971, Harlan and family volunteered in Belem, Brazil with the Peace Corps working with rice. They returned to Brazil with Wycliffe and UFM and later to Kenya with AIM as missionaries. Harlan served on the Board of the Rice Experiment Station, California Rice Commission, and the Silver Dollar Fair.
Harlan loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren's spiritual and educational growth, traveling with them, laughing, and having fun.
There will be a memorial service at the Oroville Evangelical Free Church on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at 2:00 p.m.
