He gave an affidavit in support of Joseph N. Wheatley's application for pension in 1889. He stated that Joseph N. Wheatley had lived with him for several years.

The Death Record

At 8 o'clock Sunday morning Joseph D. Norris died at his home, on South Jackson street, after an illness of only two weeks. his death was not unexpected, as for several days his life hung trembling in the balance. Mr. Norris was born in 1833, and with the exception of three years, spent his entire life in Clinton county. he was twice married, his first wife dying in 1878. Three children are living, namely: William Norris, Mrs. A. A. Hendrix and Miss Daisy Norris. The deceased was a worthy citizen, honored and respected by all. The funeral was held from the Methodist church on Wednesday at 10 o'clock, Rev. Tallotson officiating. It was under the auspices of the I.O.O.F, G.A.R. and Red men's orders, to which he belonged. The burial was at the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
