After Daniel Richardson died on the trail, Dorcas went on to Oregon City, Oregon where she married Sidney W. Moss on September 1, 1844.

Nesmith was en route to Oregon and noted in his diary that "Mr. Richerson departed this life with some old complaint, leaving a wife and 2 children." On that day Nesmith was at Ft. Hall. Idaho.
