On Feb. 13, 1898, Robert Archibald Wheaton, m '90, died suddenly at St. Paul. His funeral was one of the largest in recent years, indicating his great popularity with all the classes. Dr. Wheaton was professor of Minor Surgery in the Medical Department of the University of Minnesota, and assistant surgeon on the staff of the City and County Hospital, St. Paul, and assistant surgeon on the medical staff of the National Guard, State of Minnesota. He left a widow, and a daughter a few months old. He was a partner with his brother, Dr. C.A. Wheaton, m '77.

Young in Years, But Had A National Reputation
ST. PAUL, February 14, 1898 - Dr. Robert A. Wheaton, one of the best known surgeons in the country, died suddenly last night of aploxey. Dr. Wheaton, while but 35 years of age, had a National reputation as a surgeon. He was born at Northfield, Minnesota and graduated from Harvard. For a year and a half, he was at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was professor of Minor Surgery in the University of Minnesota and Captain and Assiatant Surgeon in the Minnesota National Guard. He was a frequesnt contributor to the medical journals.

Dr. Robert A. Wheaton, of St. Paul Minn., died in that city of February 13th of meningitis following otitus media, at the age of thirth-five. He was born at Northfield, Minn. He received his degree at the Harvard Medical School about ten years ago and served as House Physician at the Boston City Hospital. About six years ago he began practice in St. Paul in partnership with his brother, Dr. Charles A. Wheaton.

Dr. Wheaton was married in December, 1895, to Miss Jane Moore, who with a daughter about five months old survives him.

His death closes a career that gave every promise of becoming brilliant and successful. Though still a young man he ranked among the foremost surgeons in Minnesota. As a practitioner he had not only the confidence but the friendship of his patients, and his sudden death was felt generally as a deep personal loss.

He was the professor of minor surgery in the medical department if the University of Minnesota and was assistant surgeon on the city and county hospital staff. He was also a frequent contributor to the medical press.
