Archibald Baker was born November 4, 1851 in Pulaski County, Missouri and was 76 years old at the his death. He was one of the early settlers of this vicinity, coming here in March 1866, with his grandfather, Judge Samuel Baker, first judge of Adams County, and he resided here continuously from that time until his death.
He was married to Adeline Bolt on January 13, 1876, and they began housekeeping on what is now the John Gourley farm northwest of Villisca, later buying the farm half a mile west of there where they resided forty-four years. To this union were born three daughters. They are Mrs. Cora E. Selley of Monument, Kansas, Mrs. Blanche B. Dunn of Villisca, and Mrs. Mattie B. Myers of Norfolk, Nebraska. The wife and mother died on February 11, 1923. Besides his daughters, Mr. Baker leaves also one sister, Mrs. R. A. Dunn of Villisca, and two brothers, George W. Baker of Villisca, and A. J. Baker of Eli, Nebraska, also eleven grandchildren.
Mr. Baker and his wife came ti Villisca in 1919 to make their home. He was a member of the Arlington Presbyterian Church which held services in a schoolhouse near his home and later in No. 10 schoolhouse. His funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Dunn, with Rev. R. J. Blue in charge of the service. The singing was by H. H. Nordyke, J. B. Means, R. J. Swanson, and H. e. Dow, and the pall bearers were J. T. Myers, Norfolk, Nebraska, S. W. and Will Selley, Monument, Kansas, Clarence Kelley, Benkelman, Nebraska, J. A. and John Dunn, Villisca. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery beside the wife of the deceased.

Archibald Baker, son of Balaam and Mary Emily Baker, age 72, born in Pulaski County, Missouri was married on September 26, 1923 in Red Oak, Iowa to Mary Jane Hatfield, 60, born in Borbon, Indiana to Melvina Austin and Henry Hatfield. They were married by J. L. Boyd, Minister of the Gospel. Witnesses were George Baker and Mrs. L. W. Scott

Archibald Baker born November 4, 1851 in Missouri, to Balaam Baker, born in Kentucky, and Mary Baker, born in Morgan, Indiana. He died on April 12, 1928 at the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 8 days, of labor pneumonia. F. S. Williams M. D. He was a Railroad Engineer. He was buried in the Villisca Cemetery April 15, 1928. A. B. Wolfe-undertaker.

Mary (Polly) born November 24, 1826; married January 15, 1846 to Baalam Baker, a second cousin. Polly and Baalam both died in 1865, in Missouri, and Samuel brought their four youngest children to Iowa. S. C. Dunn took Arch and Mag. Samuel Baker kept George and Jack until his death, then the Dunn took them too.


Arch Baker of Villisca, is dead
Arch Baker, pioneer resident of Villisca and vicinity, died Thursday, about 12:36 P.M. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Dunn, in Villisca. His death resulted from pneumonia after an illness of a few days. Mr. Baker's funeral was held yesterday afternoon in Villisca with burial in the Villisca Cemetery.
Mr. Baker was twice married, his first marriage was to Adeline Bolt, who is deceased. His second marriage was to Mrs. Hargan. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Cora Seley, Mrs. James Meyers of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Mrs. James Dunn of Villisca. He was a brother of Supervisor George W. Baker.
