MRS. R. A. DUNN SR. DIES AT AGE OF 77 WAS PIONEER HERE
Mrs. R. A. Dunn, Sr., a pioneer resident of this vicinity, died at 11:30 p.m. Monday at the home of her son Ray Dunn, and wife on East Fourth Street. Her death followed a six weeks illness.
She is survived by her husband and four sons, George Dunn of the Arlington vicinity northwest of Villisca, Raymond James Dunn, and A. A. Dunn of Villisca, and Robert A. Dunn, Jr. of West Point, Nebraska. She also leaves two brothers, George W. Baker of northwest of Villisca, and Jack Baker of Cody, Nebraska, two great grandchildren and nine grandchildren.
Margaret Elizabeth Baker was born November 4, 1854 in Pulaski County, Missouri, a daughter of Balaam and Mary Baker. When she was nine years old, her parents died within a space of a few months and her grandfather, Judge Samuel Baker, a early settler in this vicinity, went to Missouri and brought home with him the orphaned children of his son, Mary Elizabeth, George Arch, and Jack Baker. Mrs. Dunn and her brother Arch were taken to the home of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Dunn to make their home and the other two children remained in the home of their grandfather.
On June 29, 1871, Mary Elizabeth Baker was married to Raymond A. Dunn, Sr., at her home east of Villisca. They went to housekeeping on the farm where George Dunn and family now reside and after living there one year, Mr. Dunn bought a forty acre farm in the Tensile vicinity. They build a one room residence of native lumber on the farm and later enlarged both their farm and their residence.
They lived on that farm 57 years leaving it in 1925 to move to Villisca, where they have since made their home when they have not been traveling. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Dunn Sr., celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, on June 29, 1921, and on June 29, 1931, they observed their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
Following her death Monday night, Mrs. Du's body was taken to the Wolfe & Gourley funeral chapel where it remained until the hour of the funeral services, which were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Villisca Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Arthur Mortensen, pastor of the church, was mad in the Arlington Cemetery northwest of Villisca. Robert A. Dunn Jr and Willis Dunn of West Point Nebraska were among the relatives from a distance who were here for the funeral services.
