Mr. Smith was born Dec. 14, 1937, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a pipefitter for General Motors.
He had been a member since 1974 of Calvary Sounds Church, where he served as elder.
His survivors include his wife, Millie N. Smith of the home; two sons, Terry Michael Smith, Independence, and Shane Lee Maxwell, DeSoto, Kan.; a sister, Pearl Ann Pyclor, Lee's Summit; two brothers, LeRoy Smith, Lee's Summit, and Paul Smith, Smithville, Mo.; and four granddaughters, Jessica Smith, Kayla Smith, Shania Smith and Angel Smith.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.
