Rebecca Jane Calbreath was the daughter of Thomas Calbreath and Jenet J Hutchinson. She married David Kerr in about 1830 (based on the census below).

They had known Kerr children:
Sarah A, abt 1831
Elizabeth J., 8 Dec 1833 (Frederick Fry & Peter J Link), below
Margaret "Maggie" E., 8 Sep 1837 (Gideon Huff), below
Caroline "Carrie" A., 16 Aug 1841 (Noah Beard), below
Rebecca Mattie M., 1843 (Robt. H. Frame), below
Lucretia E., abt 1846

Rebecca M. M. Kerr, age 27, parents David Kerr and Rebecca J. "Calbreath," married Robert H Frame, age 26, son of Saml H Frame and Lavinia Banch on 19 Mar 1874.

On the 1850 Augusta Co., VA. Census for District 2 1/2, I found farmer David Kerr, 42 with $2,078. in real estate; residing with these Kerrs: Rebecca J., 38; Sarah A., 19; Elizabeth, 17; Margaret E., 14; Caroline A., 8; Rebecca M., 6 and Lucretia E., 4. They were all born in Virginia. Also on the same page, close by was the Samuel B. Kerr (47) family of 7.

Her father and some siblings were on the 1850 Dist. 2 1/2, Augusta Co., VA census. Farmer Thomas Galbreath, 82; Anne Galbreath, 45; farmer Thomas Galbreath, Jr., 34; Elizabeth Galbreath, 26 and Zachariah F Galbreath, 24, all VA born.

13 Dec 1855, Elizabeth J Kerr, 21, born in Augusta Co., VA, daughter of David Kerr & Jane Calbreath, married Frederick Fry, 22, born in Rockbridge Co., VA to Jos Fry & Frances Rodes, in Augusta Co., VA.

On the 1860 Burke's Mill, Augusta Co., VA Census, I found farmer David Kerr, age 52, residing with Rebecca J. Kerr, 49; Maggie E. Kerr, 21; Carie A. Kerr, 18; Rebecca M.M. Kerr, 16; female L.V. Kerr, 13 and Wm Tanner, 13. They were all born in VA and lived near these Kerrs: Ephraim, 48, Jane, 55 and Jos. 46. Plus Nathaniel (57) and Jane Kerr's (40) family.

On the 1870 Mount Sidney, Augusta Co., VA Census, I found farmer David Kerr, 63; residing with Rebecca J. Kerr, 59; Carrie A. Kerr, 25; Rebecca M.M. Kerr, 23; Lucretia V. Kerr, 21 and Wm Jones, 11. They were all born in VA and lived near other Kerrs: Nathaniel, 68 and his family of 10; John, 28; Hiram, 62; David M., 33; James L., 26.

13 Dec 1877, Margaret E Kerr, 36, born in Augusta Co., VA, to parents David Kerr & Jane Kilbreth, married Gideon Huff, 29, born in Augusta Co., VA, the son on Jacob Juff & Margaret Fellon, in Augusta Co., VA.

According to familysearch(.org on 8-15) DAUGHTER REBECCA M. M. Kerr, age 27, parents David Kerr and Rebecca J. "Calbreath," married Robert H Frame, age 26, son of Saml H Frame and Lavinia Banch on 19 Mar 1874 at New Hope. They were both born in and married in Augusta Co., VA. I did not see the actual document, it is on LDS film 30,416.

Another source with family connections is the legal notice in the 6 May 1879 Staunton Spectator, Vol. 56, # 33, on the right (plus the same on 29 Apr 1879). It lists Rebecca Kerr Frame and her late parents David Kerr and Rebecca Calbreath, listing Rebecca K Frame's living Kerr siblings and Calbreath kin, in a suit regarding the estate of the late Thomas Calbreath.

4 Mar 1885, her DAUGHTER CARRIE A. Kerr (single), age 42, born in Augusta Co., VA, daughter of David Kerr and "Ca" (for Calbreath I guess) married widower Noah Beard, 64 on 4 Mar 1885 in New Hope Augusta Co., VA, the son of Abraham Beard and Mary King.

I believe Rebecca's husband David was son of Alexander Kerr and brother of Samuel Bell Kerr, also buried here.

She is buried beside her husband, David (plot 141 #A). His marker is more legible. Wife of David Kerr, aged 61 years, plus her dates and age are recorded in surveys of the cemetery.

Died suddenly near New Hope, in this county, on the 17th instant, of phthisic, Mrs. Rebecca Jane Kerr, aged 61 years and 5 days. Staunton Spectator, 30 Jan 1872, the Library of Congress. (Phthisic is AKA tuberculosis.) Based on this age, she was born on about 12 Jan 1811.

The dedicated volunteer photographer sent me 3 more photos with higher resolution and slightly different angles of her marker but little else could be determined at this late date (Jan 2013). Thanks VATraveler for the extra TLC.

Both David and Jane Kerr are listed in the Augusta Co. Historical Society Bulletin, #15 (F79) 44.

Note: Rebecca's kin William Johnston and possibly David Kerr's kin, William and James Kerr were listed on the large Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church tablet in 1741, 1744 and 1747.
