Thomas Calbreath, Jr. was the son of Thomas Calbreath, Sr. and Margaret Johnston, the daughter of William Johnston. Thos "Caldbreath" married "Jane Hutcheson" ("abt 1782-abt 1849") in Augusta Co., VA on 26 Nov 1801. She was also known as Jennet. Early Hutchesons, George and William were listed on the large Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church tablet in 1741, 1744 and 1747, the same one as William Johnston.

On the 1850 DIst. 2 1/2, Augusta Co., VA census, I found farmer THOMAS GALBREATH, 82; Anne Galbreath, 45; farmer Thomas Galbreath, 34; Elizabeth Galbreath, 26 and farmer Zachariah F Galbreath, 24, all VA born.

28 Dec 1854, Elizabeth M Calbrith, 32, born in Augusta Co., VA to Thos Calbrith & Janett Hutcheson, married James G. Patterson, 30 (born abt 1824), born Albemarle Co., VA, to Jos Patterson & Susan Davis, in Augusta Co., VA.

Thomas Calbreath died 6 Oct 1855, near Fisherville, Augusta Co., VA, aged 88. Line 637 on the Augusta Co., VA Death Register, volume 1. Abstracts of Augusta Co., VA Death Registers 1853 - 1896, by Margaret C. Reese, Athens, GA, 1983, p 20. Based on this data, he was born in about 1767.

He left a will and considerable property, naming sons Thomas and Zachariah F., as executors. Page 2 of Augusta Co., VA Chancery suit 1878-106, gives the names of his surviving children and data in 80 pages. See page 1 on the side. It states Thomas Calbreath, "Senr." died in 1855 - 1856. He was actually Jr. and his son was the III.

Thomas and Zachariah F. Calbreath vs Margaret J Elmore et als. pursuance of a decree entered 6 Jun 1878, this cause I shall proceed at my office, Staunton, Va., on Wednesday, September 4th, 1878, to take an account showing a settlement of the transactions of Thomas and Zachariah F. Calbreath, Sr., dec'd; the amount of legacy bequeathed to each legatee; the amount paid each by said Executors, and the balance due, if any. aug6-45, Jos. A Waddell, Com'r. The 13 Aug 1878, Staunton Spectator.

Staunton Spectator, 29 Apr 1879, the Library of Congress. "The object of this suit is to obtain a settlement of the estate of THOMAS CALBREATH, dec'd and to subject his landed estate to sale to satisfy his debts if his personalty is insufficient to pay the same and to clear the title to said real estate."

On the 1880 South River, Augusta Co., VA census, I found farmer Z F (Zachariah Franklin) Calbreath, 56; wife Frances, 37; sons: Thomas P., 25; Wm F., 23; John D, 19; daughter Sarah E., 13 and son E. Strickler Calbreath, 2, all VA born. The same widow Zacariah F Calbreath, age 53, born about 1824, in Augusta Co., VA, the son of Thos Calbraith and Janetta Hutchinson, married Frances B Hany, 30, born about 1847 in Augusta Co., VA, the daughter of Jno B Hany and Margaret Hildebrand, on 19 Jul 1877 in Fisherville, Augusta Co., VA.

"At the residence of Mr. Thomas Calbreath, 11th inst., Miss Martha B. Hutchison, about 75 years of age. She had been for more than half a century a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church." The Staunton Spectator, 22 Jan 1861.

I suspect he is buried at the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, but he could be on his family homestead, nearby.

Bond for the purchase of various equipment (steam engine, saw mill shingle machine and chopping mill) for $3,600, bearing interest from 30 Mar 1864 for a 3 year term. Issue with payment in Confederate currency. Reports of Cases Decided in the Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia, Volume 63, by Peachy R Grattan, Vol XXII, 15 Mar 1872 - 1 Jan 1873, Richmond, VA, 1873, p 697 to 723. (That's Thomas, III, son of Thomas, Jr.).
