Margaret Johnston Calbreath was the daughter and first child of Thomas Calbreath, Jr. and Jane/Jennet Hutchinson. Her father was the son of Thomas Calbreath, Sr. and Margaret Johnston. She married first to Thomas Gordon Kerr on 22 Apr 1823.

They had 8 known Kerr children together:

She married second to Benjamin Elmore on 19 Mar 1850 in Pike County, MO. They had no known children together. Newpaper article (below + photo) says she had 8 children and 3 were living on unknown date. She out lived both of her husbands.

On the 1850 Cuivre, Pike Co., MO census, I found farmer Benjamin Elmore, 63; MARY J Elmore, 47; farmer Thomas E Kerr, 18; William G Kerr, 15 and "to the mines" John F Kerr, 19. Parents were VA born and the Kerrs were all born inn MO.

On the 1860 Ashley, Pike Co., MO census, I found farmer Bemjr Ellmore, 73 and domestic MARGARET J Ellmore, 58, both VA born. They resided next to farmer W G Carr (sic), 25, MO born; domestic Hetta, 23, KY bornJames T Carr, 3 and Benjr T, 2, both MO born.

On the 1870 Ashley, Pike Co., MO census, I found farmer Wm G Keer (Kerr), 35, MO born; Hettie Keer, 33, KY: MO born children: James T Keer,13; Benj F Keer, 17; William P Keer, 9; Edward Keer, 6; John A, 3 and Ferman D Keer, 1; farm laborer John W Clifton, 19; plus Benjamin Elmore, 83, VA and MARGARET Elmore, 68, VA born.

On 27 Feb 1878, her 2nd husband Benjamin died, and was buried with his first wife.

On the 1880 Ashley, Pike Co., MO census, I found farmer Wm G Kerr, 45; wife Hettie, 43; sons or daughter: Wm P, 19; Edward, 13; Farmin D, 11; Mary M, 7 and Joseph A, 3, all MO born, except for Hattie in KY. Next door, lived “Mother” and widow MARGARET Elmore, 77, VA born.

DBurris shared an unidentified newspaper clipping photo Jan 2018 that reads: MRS. MARGARET J. ELMORE, nee Margaret J. Calbreth (sic) was born in Augusta county, Va., in 1803, and settled in Pike county in 1828. She has borne eight children, only three of whom are living. This aged lady is living near Ashley.

Mrs. Margaret Kalbreath (sic) Elmore died 18 Jan 1887 in Ashley, Pike County, MO, according to Kenneth E. Weant’s Pike County, Missouri 6064 Deaths Records from the Chronological Index to Selected Articles from Bowling Green Observer and Bowling Green Times, 9 August 1878 to 27 Dec 1894, Vol. 1, Missouri, 2001. It records death notices reported in these two papers.
