He then married Rose Mabel Phillips on 17 Dec 1945 and they had one daughter, Mary Jane, together on 13 July 1946 in Wallace, Idaho. Rose Mabel died on 18 Nov 1953. He then had twin children with his wife Lorraine on February 16, 1953, Fern Joy Millsap and Vern Roy Millsap. Lavern died on May 26, 1967, in Payson, Arizona, at the age of 50.

LaVern served in the United States Navy Reserve as a GM2 during World War II.
