Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Bertrand Vickers Alder, passed away October 1, 1993 at the age of 67.
He was born September 5, 1926 in Salt Lake City to Reuel J. and Rita Vickers Alder. Married Beverly Madsen February 25, 1946. She preceded him in death March 17, 1965. Married Rosemary C. Wayne January 14, 1967. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Graduated from West High and Radio Institute. Worked as a tile contractor for 15 years, then retired from Hill Air Force Base after 22 years of service. Attended the University of Utah and Weber State University. Active in the LDS Church; he served two missions, worked in Scouting, dancing instruction, Sunday School and participated in second marriage counseling classes. Known affectionately by his family as "Pa Leader" and "Grandpa Leader". Bert was a people person. He loved everyone and was happiest when preparing parties for his huge family and his friends.
He is survived by his wife and children, all in the Salt Lake valley area: David L. Alder (Candice), Walter B. Alder (Michelle), Suzy Robertson (Carl), William E. Alder (Cynthia), Nancy Haynie, Raylene McMillan (David), William G. Wayne (Charlotte), Patricia L. Brown (Rick), Wendy R. Reeder (Tom), Kerry M. Wayne, Robin Carey (Kirk), J. Sheldon Wayne (Stacie), 51 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Matthews (Wayne); brother, Eugene Alder (Mary), daughter-in-law, Kathleen B. Wayne.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 5, 1993, 12 noon at the Valley View 7th Ward, 2245 East 3900 South. Viewing will be Monday, October 4, 1993 at Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, and one hour prior at the ward. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road.
