Clinton, MS - Elsie Maye Barber, 79, died Sept. 7, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center. She was born May 6, 1925, in Itawamba County to the late Joe and Jimmie Benefield. She was a member of East Heights Baptist Church.
Services were Sept. 9 in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues. Burial was in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include two daughters, Priscilla King and husband, Jerry, of Starkville, and Gerldine Sledge and husband, Elvis, of Clinton; a brother, William Benefield of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Mitch King and wife, Julie, of Jackson, Angie Edge and husband, Kevin, of Hatley, and Hayley Sledge and Seth Sledge of Clinton; three great-grandchildren; a special brother-in-law, William Barber of Saltillo, and his two children, Linda Cochran and W.C. Barber Jr.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Mittie Lou Raper, Cleatus Benefield, Lois Benefield, Marie Roberts and Alice Barber, and a brother, John Robert Benefield.
