Funeral services for Joe M. Benefield, 61, who died Sept. 7, 1946 in the Baptist Hospital in Memphis, were conducted at Priceville on Sept. 8 with burial in the Priceville Cemetery. Spain Funeral Home had charge. Mr. Benefield fell while repairing the room of a cotton crib on his farm near Beech Springs the previous week. The vertebra in his neck was snapped entirely in two by the force of the fall.
Survivors included his wife; six daughters, Mrs. Arthur Raper of Dorsey, Mrs. Raymond Brooks, Mrs. Clifton Barber, Mrs. Garvin Barber, all of Saltillo, Miss Lois Benefield and Miss Cleatus Benefield of near Beech Springs; two sons, John Robert Benefield of Fulton and William Benefield of Saltillo.
Pallbearers were Leonard Wood, J. W. Barber, Alfred Nichols, Vernon Gregory, Marvin Barber and E. W. Christian.
