Gordon Gwinn, Returning with Family to Gary after Sunday visit in Elwood

Wife and Son in Hospital

Gordon Gwinn, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Price Gwinn residing at 1529 South Twenty fifth street was killed almost instantly when the automobile in which he and his wife and five year son Eugene were returning to their home at Gary after a visit to relatives here collided with a heavy truck on state road 30 between Valparaiso and Knox early today. Mrs. Gwinn and the boy were painfully but not seriously injured and are in the hospital of Valparaiso. The Gary family had motored to Elwood to spend Sunday with his parents and Mr. and Mrs James Davis, parents of Mrs. Gwinn, residing at 925 North Eleventh Street and had started on their trip home about 10 o'clock last night.
No Particulars Given.
Information as to the tragedy was received this morning in a telephone message received by Milton York, form a funeral director at Knox ho said that the body of Mr. Gwinn was at his establishment, that the wife and son were in the hospital and reported not seriously hurt, He gave no particulars of the accident.

Mr. Gwinn was born October 24, 1904 and was married to Miss Eunice Davis. Two children were born to their union one being deceased. The family moved to Gary to take up their residence about three years ago. Mr. Gwin being employed in the mills there.
To Ship Body Here
The body will be shipped to Elwood Tuesday morning and will be met by Funeral Director York and taken to his mortuary. Later an announcement will be made following his arrival.
News of the death of Gordon Gwinn who was known as industrious, jovial young man will cause the greatest shock to the people of this city and sincere sympathy will be extended to the bereaved relatives.

P.F. Ryan Proprietor of Local laundry is severely injured when stuck by auto near Muncie last night.

Elwood, March 3, Gordon Gwin age 25 son of Mr. and Mrs. Price Gwinn of 1529 South Twenty-fifth street, who had been living in Gary for the past three years was instantly killed when the car he was driving and in which his wife and five year old son, Eugene, were passengers collided with a heavy truck on state road 30 near Valparaiso early this morning. The wife and child are in a Valparaiso hospital but are not thought to be seriously injured.

The family had spent the week-end in Elwood while visiting Mr. Gwinn's parents and other relatives and had started home at 10 p.m. Sunday. No details of the accident were contained in the message received by the young man's parents here.

Elwood, March 6, The body of Gordon Gwinn, age 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Price Gwinn of 1529 South Twenty-fifth street, who was almost instantly killed when the Ford automobile, which he was driving collided with a five-ton truck about twenty miles south of Valparaiso early Monday morning was removed to the home of his parents today. First complete details of the accident were learned today. The accident victim, his wife and their small son, Eugene, accompanied by Kenneth Wyatt and A. Wilson, Elwood young men, were enroute to Gary where the men are employed in the mills. The large truck is said to have had only one headlight and swerved directly in front of the Elwood machine. The small car was practically demolished. Mrs. Gwinn and he son suffered minor injuries and were removed to a Valparaiso hospital but were able to be Brought home last evening. Wyatt and Wilson escaped injuries. Gwinn sustained a fractured skull. The truck occupied by two Chicago Italians,who were placed under arrest by authorities and are held under $5,000 bond each. No funeral arrangements have been made for the victim, but they will probably be held Friday afternoon.

Tony Dinova, of Knox, was acquitted of a charge of manslaughter
resulting from the death of Gordon Gwinn, of Gary, Thursday
by a Jury In Starke circuit court at Knox. Gwinn was killed In a head on collision between his auto and a truck driven by Dinova, while Gwinn was on his way to Elwood, his former home, for a visit. Mrs. Gwinn suffered a fractured skull and Gordon Gwinn, Jr., their four year- old son, was cut and bruised. Mrs. Gwinn and son were brought to the Christian hospital here after the accident. Witnesses to the prosecution who testified alleged Dlnova's truck, with only one headlight, was being driven down the left side of the highway when it struck Gwlnn's auto. Dinova borrowed a 1929 license
plate, issued on a passenger car, after the accident, the state
charged. The manslaughter charge against Dinova followed Investigation of the crash by Oeorgle McIIlc, assistant chief of the state highway police, and Starke county officials. The
case was the first one filed after orders for Investigation of fatal
highway accident by state police wore issued by Otto a. Plneld, secretary
of State.

Funeral services for Gordon Gwinn, 25 who was killed in an automobile accident early Monday morning an he and his wife and son were returning to their home at Gary after having spent Sunday with relatives here, will be conducted at the United Brethren church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by the pastor, Rev W. T. Sanders and burial will be in the city cemetery.
The body after having been sent from Knox to Milton York's mortuary, was removed to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Price H. Gwinn, 1529 South P Street and today it was taken to the home of Mrs. Gwinn's Parents Mr. and Mrs. James Davis, 925 North Eleventh Street, where it will remain until the hour of the funeral.
Mrs. Gordon Gwinn and little son, who sustained slight injuries in the accident and were given attention at the Valparaiso hospital were able to come to Elwood to the home of their relatives.
It has been learned that the automobile in which the Gwinn family was returning to Gary met a large truck, filled with vegetables, driven by two men from Chicago, in the state road near Valparaiso. Only one headlight was burning on the truck, it is said. It crowed the Elwood car off the road causing the death of the driver. The Chicago men are held under $2,500 bond each.

Many Friends of the family attended funeral services conducted this afternoon for Gordon Gwinn at the United Brethren church by the pastor, Rev.W. T. Sanders and the attendance was a tribune to the regard in which this fine young man was held in the community. Burial was in the city cementery.

Funeral services for Gordon Gwinn, 25 who was killed in an automobile accident early Monday morning an he and his wife and son were returning to their home at Gary after having spent Sunday with relatives here, will be conducted at the United Brethren church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by the pastor, Rev W. T. Sanders and burial will be in the city cemetery.
The body after having been sent from Knox to Milton York's mortuary, was removed to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Price H. Gwinn, 1529 South P Street and today it was taken to the home of Mrs. Gwinn's Parents Mr. and Mrs. James Davis, 925 North Eleventh Street, where it will remain until the hour of the funeral.
Mrs. Gordon Gwinn and little son, who sustained slight injuries in the accident and were given attention at the Valparaiso hospital were able to come to Elwood to the home of their relatives.
It has been learned that the automobile in which the Gwinn family was returning to Gary met a large truck, filled with vegetables, driven by two men from Chicago, in the state road near Valparaiso. Only one headlight was burning on the truck, it is said. It crowed the Elwood car off the road causing the death of the driver. The Chicago men are held under $2,500 bond each.

Many Friends of the family attended funeral services conducted this afternoon for Gordon Gwinn at the United Brethren church by the pastor, Rev.W. T. Sanders and the attendance was a tribune to the regard in which this fine young man was held in the community. Burial was in the city cementery.

The body of Gordon Gwinn, age 25, who was killed in an automobile accident early Monday while returning to his home at Gary after visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Price Gwinn, 1529 South Twenty-fifth Street, arrived in Elwood yesterday and was taken to the Milton York Mortuary where it will rest until funeral arrangements are made.
Mrs. Gwinn also slightly injured in the accident reached Elwood late last night after leaving a Gary Hospital where she was taken following the accident.

Gordon Gwinn, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Price Gwinn residing at 1529 South Twenty fifth street was killed almost instantly when the automobile in which he and his wife and five year son Eugene were returning to their home at Gary after a visit to relatives here collided with a heavy truck on state road 30 between Valparaiso and Knox early today. Mrs. Gwinn and the boy were painfully but not seriously injured and are in the hospital of Valparaiso. The Gary family had motored to Elwood to spend Sunday with his parents and Mr. and Mrs James Davis, parents of Mrs. Gwinn, residing at 925 North Eleventh Street and had started on their trip home about 10 o'clock last night.
No Particulars Given.
Information as to the tragedy was received this morning in a telephone message received by Milton York, form a funeral director at Knox ho said that the body of Mr. Gwinn was at his establishment, that the wife and son were in the hospital and reported not seriously hurt, He gave no particulars of the accident.
Mr. Gwinn was born October 24, 1904 and was married to Miss Eunice Davis. Two children were born to their union one being deceased. The family moved to Gary to take up their residence about three years ago. Mr. Gwin being employed in the mills there.
To Ship Body Here
The body will be shipped to Elwood Tuesday morning and will be met by Funeral Director York and taken to his mortuary. Later an announcement will be made following his arrival.
News of the death of Gordon Gwinn who was known as industrious, jovial young man will cause the greatest shock to the people of this city and sincere sympathy will be extended to the bereaved relatives.

Elwood, March 3, Gordon Gwin age 25 son of Mr. and Mrs. Price Gwinn of 1529 South Twenty-fifth street, who had been living in Gary for the past three years was instantly killed when the car he was driving and in which his wife and five year old son, Eugene, were passengers collided with a heavy truck on state road 30 near Valparaiso early this morning. The family had spent the week-end in Elwood while visiting Mr. Gwinn's parents and other relatives and had started home at 10 p.m. Sunday. No details of the accident were contained in the message received by the young man's parents here.

Elwood, March 6, The body of Gordon Gwinn, age 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Price Gwinn of 1529 South Twenty-fifth street, who was almost instantly killed when the Ford automobile, which he was driving collided with a five-ton truck about twenty miles south of Valparaiso early Monday morning was removed to the home of his parents today. First complete details of the accident were learned today. The accident victim, his wife and their small son, Eugene, accompanied by Kenneth Wyatt and A. Wilson, Elwood young men, were enroute to Gary where the men are employed in the mills. The large truck is said to have had only one headlight and swerved directly in front of the Elwood machine. The small car was practically demolished. Mrs. Gwinn and he son suffered minor injuries and were removed to a Valparaiso hospital but were able to be Brought home last evening. Wyatt and Wilson escaped injuries. Gwinn sustained a fractured skull. The truck occupied by two Chicago Italians,who were placed under arrest by authorities and are held under $5,000 bond each. No funeral arrangements have been made for the victim, but they will probably be held Friday afternoon.

THE TRUCK DRIVER IS ACQUITTED CRASH DEATH
Tony Dinova, of Knox, was acquitted of a charge of manslaughter
resulting from the death of Gordon Gwinn, of Gary, Thursday
by a Jury In Starke circuit court at Knox. Gwinn was killed In a head on collision between his auto and a truck driven by Dinova, while Gwinn was on his way to Elwood, his former home, for a visit. Mrs. Gwinn suffered a fractured skull and Gordon Gwinn, Jr., their four year- old son, was cut and bruised. Mrs. Gwinn and son were brought to the Christian hospital here after the accident. Witnesses to the prosecution who testified alleged Dlnova's truck, with only one headlight, was being driven down the left side of the highway when it struck Gwlnn's auto. Dinova borrowed a 1929 license
plate, issued on a passenger car, after the accident, the state
charged. The manslaughter charge against Dinova followed Investigation of the crash by Oeorgle McIIlc, assistant chief of the state highway police, and Starke county officials. The
