________________________________________
For gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Platoon Sergeant Brown distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 31 October 1967, while serving as a Platoon Sergeant with Company C, 1st Battalion (Mechanized), 50th Infantry during a combat mission near Quang Nhiem in the Republic of Vietnam. When his unit defensive perimeter came under hostile attack, Sergeant Brown repeatedly exposed himself to the enemy fire as he directed his unit's base of fire against the assaulting hostile force.. While directing his men into defensive positions, Sergeant Brown was mortally wounded, but his action contributed greatly to the successful repulsion of the enemy attack. His gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
