Eldon Willard Burgess, age 87, passed away on December 2, 2011 in Murray, Utah.

He was born August 4, 1924 in Riverdale, Utah, the son of Willard and Mary Adaline Read Burgess. He married Elsie Mae Ward on March 25, 1948.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII as a Navigator. He loved to invent new devices and had several patents. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in 1953 from USU and earned Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Tau awards.

He worked in civil service for the U.S. Government and retired from the service in 1986. Eldon was a devout and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as Bishop in the Murray Thirteenth Ward and in many other capacities in the church. He loved having his family around him. He gave his love, devotion, and provided full time care to his ailing wife before he passed.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Mae, and his six children: David (Karen) Burgess, Jerrold (Jo Anne) Burgess, Susan (Craig) Rasmussen, Jeanie (Wayne) Wood, Rodney (Linda) Burgess, and Sherri (David) Hayes; one brother, Owen (Sherry) Burgess; twenty-three grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Mary Burgess; his sister, Marva (Bert) Taylor; and a grandson, Jeffrey Craig Rasmussen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in the Butler Stake Center, 7035 South Nutree Drive (3255 East). Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Estates Mortuary, 3115 East Bengal Boulevard (7800 South), and Wednesday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will follow the services at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.
