My grandmother, Lula born in 1870, grew up in the counties of Phelps and Maries was truly a pioneer woman she traveled to St. Louis in a covered wagon and was a Harvey Girl. She met her first husband Charles Luce, a civil war veteran, while working as a Harvey Girl in Omaha, Nebraska. She married her second husband James Bruton in South Dakota. Jim was in steel constructions and worked on bridges and kept the famly moving around. When Jim was killed working on a bridge in Kansas, Lula settled in St. Louis. In her later years she lived in Farmington, MO at the Presbyterian Home Life.
She was very active is social clubs, Women's Republican Club, Fawn Groves Circle Woodman's of the World, American War Mothers, Kingdoms House, Grace Hill House.
Grandmother saw the world change first hand, from Horse & wagon, to telephone and horseless carriage, to airplanes and space. What an adventure.
