Sophie Kemm, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2001. Sophie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kemm Sr.; her parents, Abelino and Rosabel (Romero) Lucero; sisters, Simonita Cassidy and Mary Garcia; brothers, Abelino Jr. and Albert Lucero. She is survived by her son, Bob Kemm of Albuquerque, grandchildren, John Kemm and Leslie Michelle Kemm of Albuquerque, NM and Eric Kemm of Las Vegas, NV; great grandson, Michael John Kemm; sisters, Ester Pray of Albuquerque, Lita Lovato and husband, Alex, of Los Alamos, NM and Georgia Dziurzynski and husband, Clarence of Albuquerque; brothers, Carlos Lucero and wife, Yvonne, Albino Lucero and wife, Frances, and Robert Lucero all of Albuquerque, and Fred Lucero and wife, Iris of Hawthorne, CA; sisters-in-law, Ramona and Fabiola Lucero of Albuquerque; many nieces and nephews. Sophie received her teachers training at NM Normal College now known as NM Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. Besides teaching, she worked along side with her husband as a partner in various businesses including lumber, hardware store, ranching, nightclub and real estate. She also worked for the State of New Mexico Equal Opportunity Board. Sophie was involved in many volunteer activities and had a great interest in genealogy for which she received a commendation from the Historical Society of New Mexico. Sophie was a member of the Catholic Church, the Alameda Lions Club and auxiliary member of the Knights of Columbus. She and her husband traveled extensively to Europe, the Caribbean and South America. She lived at the Bear Canyon Estates Retirement Community since 1997, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of her friends and visitors. Pallbearers are Patrick Cassidy, Bennie Garcia, John Kemm, Manny Garcia Jr. and Robert Lucero. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2001. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. The mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont NE at Claremont with Father Ron Bruckner, celebrant. Entombment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Casa Angelica Home, 5629 Isleta Blvd. SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105.
