"HARRISONVILLE, Pa. - Helen Blanche Strait, 83, of P.O. Box 40, died
Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Woodland Retirement Center in Orbisonia,
Pa. Born Jan. 12, 1920, in Pleasant Ridge, Pa., she was the daughter of
the late Elvie M. and Regina Decker DeShong. Her husband, Norman B.
Strait, died on Feb. 14, 1982. They were married in 1936. She was a
seamstress at Fort Loudon Sewing Factory and at Sagner's in McConnellsburg,
Pa. She was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church, Needmore, Pa. She
was a member of Greenhill Sewing Club, Harrisonville, and Sideling Hill
Church Ladies Aide. She is survived by three daughters, Frances Barnhart
and Mary M. Bookheimer, both of Hustontown, Pa., and Helen M. Peiffer of
Harrisonville; two sons, Raymond R. Strait of Hustontown, and Kenneth L.
Strait of Harrisonville; two sisters, Anna M. Clevenger of Fort Littleton,
Pa., and Esther Mellott of St. Thomas, Pa.; one brother, Gilbert DeShong of
McConnellsburg; 14 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and seven
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters,
Dorothy Hann and Nettie Boisvert; three brothers, Wishard DeShong, George
O. DeShong and James L. DeShong; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and
one great-granddaughter. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Sideling
Hill Christian Church, Needmore. The Rev. William Swope and Pastor
Christian Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Sideling Hill Christian
Cemetery, Needmore. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m.
at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville, which will open at 2 p.m.
There will be visitation at the church Wednesday at 1 p.m."
