Mary was born in Harrisonville, PA on February 26, 1945, the daughter of the late Norman B. and Helen B. (DeShong) Strait. She was the widow of Bruce M. Bookheimer whom she married on November 5, 1961 and he passed away on November 20, 2008.
Mrs. Bookheimer was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, PA, the Greencastle Sportsmen's Club, was a seamstress at the Stanley Corporation in Chambersburg, PA and also worked at Huston Sportswear in Hustontown, PA. She loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, auto racing, gardening, auctions, collecting Barbie dolls, cooking, knitting, crotcheting, sewing and beads. Her family will always remember her as a fun loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Mary is survived by Daughter Dedra R. Shore of Shade Gap, PA, Son Bruce R. Bookheimer of Hustontown, PA, Sister Frances R. Barnhart of Hustontown, PA, Brother Kenneth L. Strait of Harrisonville, PA, Grandchildren Tiffany Bookheimer, Amber Bookheimer, Matthew Bookheimer and Great Granddaughter Olivia Middaugh. Preceded in death by sister Helen Peiffer, brother Raymond R. Strait and granddaughter Angel Marie Bookheimer.
Funeral service at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA, at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 22nd, 2013 with Pastor Chris Elliott officiating.
Interment at Hustontown Cemetery, Hustontown, PA.
There will be visitation on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 from 2 to 8 P.M. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
