He was married on 29 Aug 1850 at Abington, Plymouth County, Massachusetts by N. Gunnison, Pastor of the Universalist Society of Abington, to his cousin, Maria Farrar.

Sidney served in the Civil War.
He enlisted first on 10 May 1861 at Paris, Maine as a Private in the Company Band, 10th Regiment, Maine Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered out on 15 Sep 1862. He enlisted again on 29 Feb 1864, "Leap Day", at Augusta, Maine as a Private in Company F, 29th Regiment, Maine Volunteer Infantry. He was discharged at the End of the War on 27 Mar 1866.
He was admitted to the Eastern Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Togus, Maine on 26 Aug 1900. He was discharged at request on 9 Feb 1901.
His son Sid was a Major League Baseball player and his grandaughter Geraldine was an Opera singer and actress.
