BOWLING, Arthur Lee, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the devoted husband of the late Jean Nash Bowling. Mr. Bowling was born on February 24, 1917, in Roanoke, Va., to Mary Grove Bowling and William Page Bowling. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He was a Captain in the United States Army during World War II and served in the Chemical Warfare Service. He was a member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and officer. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox in 1979. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Page Bowling, Jr. and his sister, Margaret Bowling Bowden. Mr. Bowling is survived by his son, Arthur Lee Bowling, Jr., and his wife, Lynn Kingery Bowling of Decatur, Ga.; his daughter, Patty Page Bowling Bird and her husband, Steven Lee Bird of Rustburg; and his grandchildren, Ross Fitzgerald Bowling of Washington, D.C., Kathryn Lee Bowling of Atlanta, Ga., and Jonathan David Bird and Adam Lee Bird of Rustburg.
