She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and was a graduate of Longwood College. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Linda Bowden, Roanoke; her son Phillip E. Bowden, Blacksburg; her brother, A. L. Bowling, Lynchburg; and grandchildren, Zeb and Andy, Pembroke; and Jeffrey and Jayci, Roanoke.
