LIFE OF MRS. FOUNTAIN
============================================
The following record of the life of Mrs. M. J. Fountain, who sudden death was mentioned last wee, was prepared by Rev. Priest, who officiated at her funeral which was held in the Christian Church at Bagley on Sunday, May 15th. The attendance was very large, and many beautiful floral tributes attested to the love in which this lady was held by those who knew her. The interment was in Greenbrier cemetery, beside loved ones who had gone on before.
"Mary Jane Prescott was born in Winnebago county, Illinois, April 13, 1838, and died at Bagley, May 12, 1910, aged 72 years and 29 days. She was united in marriage to Crowell M. Fountain, December 31, 1855, and in to this home were born six children, three boys and three girls, all of whom were present at the funeral services except one. They came to Iowa forty-five years ago and have lived in this community forty years. Mr. Fountain's life came to a close fifteen years ago last December.
Early in life both she and her husband were "born anew," in to the family called to be "heirs with Jesus Christ." while living in Illinois they were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, but on coming to this community were identified with the Christian church.
God alone knows the reaches of a spotless life. Their influence deals not only with time but with eternity as well. What a peace there must be in closing our eyes upon scenes of earth to open them upon the glory of "a prepared place for a prepared people." All life without this definite peace and hope is a failure at least. It is a peace and hope which the world cannot give
"Aunty Mary" has filled her place in the world, she has left the world better, richer and sweeter than she found it. Her life among us has been crowned with many happy days. She had recently returned from Jefferson, where she had spent the winter among relatives and friends. Though nearing four score years, she loved to frequent the house of the Lord, and was with us in the Bible school last Lord's day and broke bread with us in remembrance of Him. Her life has been an inspiration and her memory will be a benediction."
Relatives from other towns who attended the funeral were as follows: Mrs. Fayette Zeller, daughter, and her husband, of Jefferson; C. W. Fountain, son, of Des Moines; C. J. Fountain, son of Kiefer, Oklahoma; R. E. Fountain, son, and his wife and baby, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Wm. Prescott, a brother, of Winnebago, Illinois; H. L. Prescott, a nephew, of Rockford, Illinois; and Mrs. Grace Beck, a niece of Omaha.
