Mrs. Fayette Zeller
Death Comes to Her Friday
Had Been at General Hospital in Des Moines
for Treatment Several Weeks
Universal sadness and gloom settled upon the many Greene county friends of Mrs. Fayette Zeller last Friday when the news came to Jefferson that she was gradually sinking at the General Hospital in Des Moines, and shortly afternoon, the sad message telling on her death corroborated the rumors of the morning. The Zellers have been residents of Jefferson for seventeen years, and previous to that date lived upon their farm in Greenbrier township.
Flora, daughter of Crowell M. and Mary Jane Fountain, was born at Rockton, Illinois, August 5, 1860 and departed this life October 5, 1923, aged 63 years and 2 months. When but a child her parents moved to Guthrie county, Iowa. On March 4, 1882, she was united in marriage with Fayette Zeller, in Jefferson, and established a home in Greenbrier township. To this union were given three children, Arthur E., of near Jefferson; Bertha E., of Richey, Montana, and Myrtle I., of Sidney, Montana, all of whom with her husband survive her. She was the second daughter of a family of six children. The elder sister, Mrs. Eva Vaux, having preceded her to the great beyond. One sister, Mrs. Fannie Anderson, of Bagley, Iowa, and three brothers, Charles W., of Des Moines; Clarence J., of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Richard S., of Los Angeles, California, with her immediate family, eight grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn her departure. When but a girl of fifteen years she joined the Church of Christ, but had her membership transferred to the Methodist Episcopal church at Bagley in 1893 at the time her husband united with the church at that place. In 1906, her membership was transferred to the Methodist Church in Jefferson. For many years she has been intensely interested in missionary work, and during the greater portion of the period of her residence in this city she has held some official position in the local auxilliary of the Woman's Home Missionary Society. She has lived a quiet, useful, but thoroughly Christian life to the end, and all will be greatly missed in all the organizations of the church. She was a regular attendant at all the services and most generous in her support.
The funeral was held from the Methodist church Sunday afternoon with Rev. Slothower, her pastor, in charge. A double quartette furnished appropriate music, and the many beautiful floral pieces reflected the love and high regard which was felt. The burial was made in the Greenbrier cemetery.
