He was born August 15, 1927 in Galesburg, the son of Fred and Ada Stigner Windom. He married Margarita Pena on February 10, 1952 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons, Preston (and Janet) Windom, Canton, IL and Bernard Windom, Jr., Galesburg, 2 daughters, Vicki (and Jeffrey) Anderson, Avon, IL and Pamela (and Daryl) Cox, Galesburg, a brother, Roy (and Ginger) Windom, Huntingdon, TN, a sister, Evelyn (and Dean) Carlson, Mesa, AZ, 16 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Mackey in 1983.
He was a welder, working for A.J. Cokel Welding for 8 years. He then worked for Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens for 15 years. He graduated from Victoria High School, Victoria, IL. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and was a former member of the Galesburg Motorcycle Club. He also restored antique and classic cars. He served in the United States Army during WWII as part of the European Theatre
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial graveside services will be 10 AM Tuesday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Paul Bickel officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. There will be no formal visitation. The family will receive friends at his daughter Pamela's house at 98 W. Carl Sandburg Drive in Galesburg following the services. Memorials can be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
