Katarzyna (Catherine in English) was born in the village of Sieklowka
Gorna (just north of Jaslo) in the county of Podkarpackie, Poland, which at the time was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. She had two younger brothers who followed her to the U.S. John, the youngest, lived out his life in Chicopee, Massachusetts, where all of them had come from their native country. Anton and his family settled in Lehigh, Sumner Township, Barron County, WI. at the same time as Catherine and her husband in 1897.

Katarzyna married Wladyslaw Zawadzki on April 23, 1893 at St. Stanislaw Church in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, two years after her arrival in the U.S. She gave birth to 13 children, 11 of whom lived to adulthood. They were Kate (m. Raymond Glinianny), Frank (single), Emily (m. Adrian McCarty), Sophie (m. George Mewhorter), John (m. Opal Savage), Anna (m. Henry Geborek), Julia (m. Chester Odash), Mary (m. Michael Kowitz), Stanley (m. Elsie Pietroski), Elizabeth (m. Durwood Hyde), Frances (m. John Main).
