Jasper G Dixson, known by his family as "JG" was the first child born to William Thomas Dixson & Alice Aurora Cannon.
It's possible his birth place was actually VanZandt County, TX although he was raised in Latexo, Houston County, Texas. At the age of 19 he married my 16 yr old grandmother, his neighbor, Lela Minnie Poe. They had 11 children together over their 31 yrs of marriage. Moving from Latexo to Alvin, he "worked on the halves" for a rancher, acquiring enough cows to start up his own dairy.
All the children helped with the dairy. Even my 3 yr old Uncle Harold & 5 yr old Uncle Dub had to ride the herd from sunup to sundown as they had no fences. They later made the last cattle drive that was made in Texas when they moved their 64 head from Alvin to Pasadena, TX. They were the only dairy there in Pasadena for many years.
I never knew my grandfather, JG, as he divorced my sweet granny many years before I came along. However, I have grown to love him as I have learned more about his hard life. I have met distant cousins who knew him well and described him as pleasant & even fun to be with. He certainly had a whole bunch of wonderful children that I am proud to call my family.
