The Medina Tribune, (Medina, N.Y) Oct. 6, 1904

Mrs. Margaret Bathgate Shattuck, wife of George H. Shattuck, died suddenly on Wednesday, October 5th, 1904, at her residence, corner of Pearl street and West Avenue, and the announcement was a terrible shock and grief to her friends, for scarcely anyone knew of the critical change in her brief illness.

She was a daughter of the late Simeon Bathgate, one of the early residents of Medina and the last surviving member of his large family. She was born December 5th, 1829, in the old house upon whose site the present residence was built in 1877, and thus her whole life of nearly seventy-five years, which was so closely identified with the history of our village, was spent in the one home.

She was a devoted member of St. John's Church, whose welfare was one of her dearest interests, and an indefatigable worker in the ladies' sewing society of which, with two exceptions, she was the only one in continuous membership since its organization in 1869. As a teacher in the Sunday School and president of St. Margaret's Guild she exerted a strong influence for good upon the lives of many of the young people who will ever hold her in loving remembrance. Courageous and hopeful she was an invaluable helper in the sick room and her tender administrations brought relief and cheer to the suffering, and comfort to the sorrowing. Steadfast in her friendships, zealous in good works, she endeared herself to all who knew her, but the comfort and happiness of her family and the home life was most sacred to her and it is there she will be most keenly missed.

Her first born son died in infancy and the second son, George H. Jr., died nine years ago.

She is survived by her husband, one son Algernon B. Shattuck, and a cousin, Mrs. Agnes B. Geagen, who has been one of the household for many years, to whom are extended the sympathies of loving friends with prayers for God's comfort and peace in their sore need.

Rev. Francis Dunahm, of Albion, will conduct the funeral service at the residence at half past two o'clock on Friday afternoon.
