Martha "Patsy" Gaston was the forth daughter of Samuel and Esther [née Gaston] Gaston. Patsy, as she was known, was born in Jefferson County, Illinois on April 2, 1818 about the time her parents were settling in the area. Her family were originally from the Chester District of South Carolina and emigrated west through Kentucky and Indiana. Her grandparents were revolutionary patriots and of French Huguenots ancestry.

Patsy was the sister of Jane Gaston Andrews (1808-1878), William Gaston (1809-1868), Margaret Ann Gaston Huff (1811-1863), Elizabeth Gaston Buffington (1813-1905), Louisa Gaston (1815 -1850), Lucinda Mabel Gaston Shelton (1821-1898) Emily Gaston (1823-1823) and John Gaston (1825-1826).

In 1833, Patsy Gaston married William Bingaman from Kentucky. William was a veteran of the Black Hawk War serving in the Illinois Volunteer Militia. They had one son, Samuel Gaston Bingaman (1835-1909).

Patsy died at the young age of 19 on the 25th day of June 1837. She is buried in Baldridge Cemetery along side her parents, Samuel & Esther Gaston and her maternal grandmother, Jannet Gaston.
