He was born in Jackson county in 1900 and had been employed as an electric welder in Granite City.
Survivors include the wife, one daughter, Mrs. Edith Tate of Granite City, one brother, William Casteel of Ava, and seven sisters, Mrs. Carrie Tseonies and Mrs. Minnie Bricker of Granite City, Mrs. Rebecca Koln of Campbell Hill, Mrs. Bernice Woodard of Vergennes, and Mrs. Grace Carver, Mrs. Emma Anderson and Mrs. Vida Garver of Ava.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Du Quoin.
The body will remain at the Wilson Funeral Home in Ava until the hour of services. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ava, the Rev. J. Fowders of Du Quoin officiating. Burial will be in the Ava Evergreen cemetery.
