Bertha Schmierer, 91, of Lodi died February 22, in a local hospital. She was born Bertha Rath on June 10, 1908, in Gackle, North Dakota.
Mrs. Schmierer was raised in North Dakota. She moved to Lodi in 1937. She married Jacob Schmierer in 1938 in Reno. She worked in packing sheds and canneries in Lodi for over 48 years. She retired in 1989 at the age of 81. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking.
She is survived by her husband, Jacob Schmierer of Lodi; daughter Marilyn Martin of Lodi; sisters, Alice Kinzle and Dora Krieger both of North Dakota; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, James Schmierer.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cherokee Memorial Park with Pastor William Crabtree of Emanuel Lutheran Church officiating.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 8 to 9 a.m Friday at Lodi Funeral Home.
