Dorothea Krieger, 96, Steele, N.D., formerly Gackle, N.D., died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Golden Manor, Steele.

Dorothea Rath was born April 27, 1906, on the family farm northwest of Gackle, N.D., the daughter of John Rath Jr. and Mary (Deutchel) Rath. She grew up in the Gackle area and received her elementary education at the Griffin Township school. She helped on the family farm. She married Emil Krieger on Jan. 24, 1929, at her parents farm northeast of Gackle. They lived on a farm 16 miles south of Gackle for eight years. In 1937 they bought a farm eight miles northwest of Gackle, where they lived for 31 years. In 1968 they moved into Gackle for their retirement. Emil died in 1986. In 1997 she entered the Gackle Care Center. In 2000 she entered the Golden Manor, Steele. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Gackle. She was a Sunday school teacher and a charter member of the Ladies Aid.

She is survived by two sons, Hilbert, Jamestown, and Raymond, Lodi, Calif.; a sister, Alice Kienzle, Jamestown; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, LeRoy; four sisters and seven brothers.

Services: 10:30 a.m. today, First United Church of Christ, Gackle, with the Rev. Gordon Moen officiating.
Arrangements by Haut Funeral Homes, Gackle.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.
Burial: Gackle Cemetery, Gackle.
